Driving Instructors are working with non-competitive (recreational) drivers from beginner to active for life students, these coaches help introduce and develop equestrian skills. Instructors hold one of the most important roles in equestrian sport – building the foundation skills that empower equestrians to enjoy equestrian sport at the level they choose for the rest of their lives! Instructors use programs like Learn to Drive to complement their student development.

The following is required

1. Introduction to EC NCCP Certification (recommended)

As the first step in the pathway, this short eLearning module is FREE and your first introduction to NCCP certification and the Canadian coaching framework (approximately 15 minutes).

2. Pre-Requisites (Required)

Instructor candidates must meet the following certification-specific admission requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Show proof of achieving your Learn to Drive certification
If you have completed Learn to Drive but it is not showing as complete, please click the Email Proof to send Ontario Equestrian the certificate of completion, or contact our coaching team at coaching@ontarioequestrian.ca

Note: In exceptional cases, candidates meeting all admissions requirements but no longer able to ride or drive for physical reasons may apply for exemption. For more information, contact Ontario Equestrian's Coaching Team

3. eLearning Modules (Required)

To be in good standing with Ontario Equestrian and obtain your Registered Coach status with Equestrian Canada, you must complete the following two eLearning modules:

  Equestrian Canada: Concussion Awareness
  Fostering Healthy Equestrian Environments
4. Obtain Registered Coach Status With Equestrian Canada (Required)

Before registering for evaluation, all candidates must obtain a minimum of Registered Coach Status with Equestrian Canada.

This short, FREE, eLearning module walks you through all the steps to obtain EC Registered Coach Status.

5. Acknowledgement of Risk and Release of Liability (Required)

Prior to evaluation, you must complete the Acknowledgment of Risk and Release of Liability.

Please register for this free module and follow the instructions in the module to complete the Acknowledgment of Risk and Release of Liability. (Completion time: approximately 5 minutes)

6. Equestrian Modules (Recommended)

As you progress towards becoming an EC NCCP Certified Instructor, there are many equestrian-specific training modules available to help you get the most out of your training, improve evaluation outcomes and reach your goal.

Although this training is optional, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

7. NCCP Multisport Modules (Recommended)

8. NCCP Multisport Module (Required)

The following online modules must be completed before registering for evaluation.

Note: While not required, it is highly recommended that you take the NCCP Making Ethical Decisions module in the NCCP Multisport Recommended Modules, which is cheaper and INCLUDES this required NCCP Making Ethical Decisions Evaluation.
