High Performance 1 Coach



Competition Development coaches focus on improving athlete skills for competition in specific disciplines. The equestrians being coached by Competition Development Coaches are working in one specific discipline with access to horses matching their skill level, competing on a regular basis at national and international levels.

Candidates must be working for 2+ years with athletes in the context:
Human Athlete: Highly proficient (consistent score of 68-70 or above) at 3rd Level (Test 1 or 3) with the ability to progress to 4th Level, or above at Gold and Platinum Events
Equine Athlete: Fully trained to perform the technical movements of 4th Level.

Competition Development Coaches are working with these equestrians to refine their show quality riding skills supported by exceptional fitness, psychological readiness and an integrated support team working towards podium success in Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines. 

The following is required

1. Introduction to EC NCCP Certification (recommended)

As the first step in the pathway, this short eLearning module is FREE and your first introduction to NCCP certification and the Canadian coaching framework (approximately 15 minutes).

3. Obtain Registered Coach Status With Equestrian Canada (Required)

Before registering for evaluation, all candidates must obtain a minimum of Registered Coach Status with Equestrian Canada.

This short, FREE, eLearning module walks you through all the steps to obtain EC Registered Coach Status.

4. Equestrian Modules (Recommended)

As you progress towards becoming an EC NCCP Certified Competition Coach Specialist, there is plenty of training available to help you reach your goal and prepare for the portfolio and coaching submissions for evaluation. Most of the training, though optional, is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Review the training available and find training opportunities offered in a virtual environment or live and in-person.

Training should be completed prior to moving to evaluation.

5. NCCP Multisport Modules (Recommended)

The following live training modules offered by the Coaches Association of Ontario are recommended in preparation to become certified. You will be taken to an external website to register.

6. Evaluations (Required)

The following live evaluations must be completed before a coaching evaluation. Evaluations may be done by video or in-person.
