Introduction to Coaching/Certification
NCCP
Competition Coaches work with equestrians of all ages entering the competitive world of equestrian sport at local and regional levels.
Competition Coaches work with equestrians learning to cope with the physical and mental challenges of competition while developing advanced competitive skills. These coaches possess the skills and training to support athletes physically, mentally, tactically, and technically as they transition their learned skills into competition.
Competition Coaches use programs like Learn to Ride to complement student development.
This training pathway will help prepare you for your Competition Coach – English – Flat evaluation for Certification.

1. Introduction to EC NCCP Certification (recommended)
As the first step in the pathway, this short eLearning module is FREE and your first introduction to NCCP certification and the Canadian coaching framework (approximately 15 minutes).

2. Pre-Requisites (Required) Competition Coach candidates must meet the following certification-specific admission requirements:

Note: In exceptional cases, candidates meeting all admissions requirements but no longer able to ride or drive for physical reasons may apply for an exemption. 3. eLearning Modules (Required)
To maintain good standing with Ontario Equestrian and achieve your Registered Coach status with Equestrian Canada, please complete the following two eLearning modules: |

4. Obtain Registered Coach Status With Equestrian Canada (Required)
Before registering for evaluation, all candidates must obtain a minimum of Registered Coach Status with Equestrian Canada. This short, FREE eLearning module walks you through all the necessary steps to achieve EC Registered Coach Status. |

5. Acknowledgement of Risk and Release of Liability (Required)
Prior to evaluation, you must complete the Acknowledgment of Risk and Release of Liability. Please enter this free module and follow the instructions to complete the Acknowledgment of Risk and Release of Liability. (Completion time: approximately 5 minutes) |

6. Training Modules (Recommended) As you progress towards becoming an EC NCCP Certified Competition Coach, there are many equestrian-specific training modules available to help you get the most out of your training, improve evaluation outcomes, and reach your goal. Although this training is optional, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The following training opportunities are offered in a virtual, live online, or in-person format. |

7. Training Modules (Required)
The following online modules must be completed prior to registering for evaluation. Please Note: Candidates are required to complete both NCCP Understanding the Rule of Two and NCCP Make Ethical Decisions. As the standalone Make Ethical Decisions – Evaluation module is no longer offered, any new coaches must enroll directly in the full NCCP Make Ethical Decisions course. 8. - Register for Evaluation
Once you have completed all of the required steps above, you can register for evaluation. The final step of certification is to successfully complete your evaluation. Evaluations can be completed either in person or virtually. For details on what is required for evaluation, please refer to the evaluation rubric provided in the resources above. If you do not see a virtual or in-person date that you can attend, you can add yourself to the waitlist to be notified when a new session is added. |
