Competition Coach Specialists - General Performance, focus on improving athlete skills for Western General Performance competitors.

The equestrians being coached by Competition Coach Specialists are generally working in one specific discipline with access to horses matching their skill level, competing on a regular basis at provincial, territorial and regional levels (athletes competing at breed or provincial shows and have athlete(s) currently competing and achieving top-5 placings in a class of 6 or more competitors under at least 2 different judges at a minimum of 3 breed or provincial shows*. These results must be repeated in at least 3 different discipline classes from the following list: Western Pleasure, Showmanship, Horsemanship, Trail, Western Riding.).

Competition Coach Specialists are working with these equestrians to develop the accuracy of their performances and develop the physical and mental skills needed as they begin to determine their ultimate goal in equestrian sport.

The following is required

1. Introduction to EC NCCP Certification (recommended)

As the first step in the pathway, this short eLearning module is FREE and your first introduction to NCCP certification and the Canadian coaching framework (approximately 15 minutes).

2. Pre-Requisites (Required)

Competition Coach Specialist - Western - Speed events candidates must meet the following certification-specific admission requirements:

  • Be at least 20 years of age;
  • To qualify to be evaluated in this context, you must have athlete(s) currently competing and achieving top-5 placings in a class of 6 or more competitors under at least 2 different judges at a minimum of 3 breed or provincial shows*. These results must be repeated in at least 3 different discipline classes from the following list: Western Pleasure, Showmanship, Horsemanship, Trail, Western Riding; AND
  • Have completed the certification below.
If you have not completed an EC NCCP Competition Coach Certification, but have several years of experience, you can send Ontario Equestrian a request to be considered for direct application to the Competition Coach Specialist certification by contacting our coaching team at coaching@ontarioequestrian.ca

3. eLearning Modules (Required)

To be in good standing with Ontario Equestrian and obtain your Registered Coach status with Equestrian Canada, you must complete the following two eLearning modules:
  Equestrian Canada: Concussion Awareness
  Fostering Healthy Equestrian Environments
4. Obtain Registered Coach Status With Equestrian Canada (Required)

Before registering for evaluation, all candidates must obtain a minimum of Registered Coach Status with Equestrian Canada.

This short, FREE, eLearning module walks you through all the steps to obtain EC Registered Coach Status.

5. Acknowledgement of Risk and Release of Liability (Required)

Prior to evaluation, you must complete the Acknowledgment of Risk and Release of Liability.

Please register for this free module and follow the instructions in the module to complete the Acknowledgment of Risk and Release of Liability. (Completion time: approximately 5 minutes)

6. Equestrian Modules (Recommended)

As you progress towards becoming an EC NCCP Certified Competition Coach Specialist, there are many equestrian-specific training modules available to help you get the most out of your training, improve evaluation outcomes and reach your goal.

Although this training is optional, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

7. NCCP Multisport Modules (Recommended)

The following live training modules offered by the Coaches Association of Ontario are recommended in preparation to become certified.

8. NCCP Multisport Module (Required)

The following online modules must be completed before registering for evaluation.

Note: While not required, it is highly recommended that you take the NCCP Making Ethical Decisions module in the NCCP Multisport Recommended Modules, which is cheaper and INCLUDES this required NCCP Making Ethical Decisions Evaluation.
