Competition Coach Specialists - Speed Events, focus on improving athlete skills for Western Speed Events competitors. The equestrians being coached by Competition Coach Specialists are generally working in one specific discipline with access to horses matching their skill level, competing on a regular basis at provincial, territorial and regional levels.

To qualify to be evaluated in this context, you must show at least 2 years coaching experience producing athletes competing at provincial or national speed events or breed shows, or rodeos, that have achieved the following requirements for competitive experience:
Barrel Racing: A top-10 placing in any division at provincial or national speed event shows, or a top-6 placing at rodeos or breed shows, on 3 or more runs.
Pole Bending: A time of 26 seconds or under at provincial, national speed event or breed shows or rodeos on 3 or more runs).

Competition Coach Specialists are working with these equestrians to develop the accuracy of their performances and develop the physical and mental skills needed as they begin to determine their ultimate goal in equestrian sport.

The following is required

1. Introduction to EC NCCP Certification (recommended)

As the first step in the pathway, this short eLearning module is FREE and your first introduction to NCCP certification and the Canadian coaching framework (approximately 15 minutes).

2. Pre-Requisites (Required)

Competition Coach Specialist - Western - Speed events candidates must meet the following certification-specific admission requirements:

  • Be at least 20 years of age.
  • To qualify to be evaluated in this context, you must show at least 2 years coaching experience producing athletes competing at provincial or national speed events or breed shows, or rodeos, that have achieved the following requirements for competitive experience:

    3. Obtain Registered Coach Status With Equestrian Canada (Required)

    Before registering for evaluation, all candidates must obtain a minimum of Registered Coach Status with Equestrian Canada.

    4. Equestrian Modules (Recommended)

    As you progress towards becoming an EC NCCP Certified Competition Coach Specialist, there is plenty of training available to help you reach your goal and prepare for the portfolio and coaching submissions for evaluation. Most of the training, though optional, is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Review the training available and find training opportunities offered in a virtual environment or live and in-person.

    Training should be completed prior to moving to evaluation.

    5. NCCP Multisport Modules (Recommended)

    The following live training modules offered by the Coaches Association of Ontario are recommended in preparation to become certified. You will be taken to an external website to register.

    6. Online evaluations

    The following online evaluations must be completed to be certified. You will be taken to an external site to complete evaluations administered by the Coaching Association of Canada.
